I have 2 things for you, a love note and a love dare. (By the way, that is me and my son Manny in the pic on the right after I sang karaoke with my him in my arms at a bar in Sint Maarten… my friend and owner of that bar, Topper is to your left). They decided to play a favorite song, Edelweiss, so clearly I had to serenade my boy.
First, I read recently that how you begin your year is really how the year plays out. This was definitely the case for me, how about you? I started it cleansing and I cleansed away a lot of toxic shit to be quite honest and as the year unfolded, it allowed me to do much more of that cleansing not only in my body, but in my career, relationships and life in general.
When we clear out the old junk… we make room for the new and lots of wonderful “new” poured in. The year ahead is all about making more room for the “new” in my life. Get ready for a Renee who doesn’t hold back, who steps it up to learn a lot more personally and to shine her light so bright so she can better shine a light on you and the people she loves most.
Now onto my second dairy… (oops typo) dare.
First a quick story. I lived for years with allergies galore! I carried around a box of tissue everywhere I went. For over 6 years I lived on daily doses of allergy meds, bouncing around to different brands when I felt that some didn’t do the trick anymore. I was always sick. I hit a point when my doc thought I had leukemia (a moment of scary) because my white blood cell count was so low. Of course, no scary leukemia, it turned out that my allergies were so bad that my immune system was severely compromised (or maybe the other way around). I then discovered the netty pot and it was a life changer, not doubt about it. This was a great support, but still not the answer to a cure.
There are many things that have changed my life and we have a whole year ahead of us to discuss them, so this appears to be a great place to begin. I haven’t had allergies in over 4 years (except during constant cat exposure–I’m still working on healing this one; it’s only a matter of time). Until this past week occurred… my allergies came back. I’ll explain why in a minute.
Here is the deal with your double dare. One small shift in your diet can profoundly change your life. We are told so many things throughout our lives and we hear ideas that make us think we don’t have control over our own health. We hear a commercial that says, “milk does a body good” and some hot model chic has a sexy milk mustache so we now believe we won’t have strong bones and sexy curves without it. This couldn’t be further from the truth. The truth is you have a choice.
I made a choice years ago to “just say no” to dairy and my allergies went away completely. 100% gone. My skin + acne cleared up. I believe I look younger too, I know I definitely feel younger. No cheese, no yogurt, no milk, etc. Now the but…but… but’s come up don’t they. Fear sets in. You are feeling it right now, I bet. Renee, how will I get calcium? How will I get those gut enzymes? I can’t live without cheese? How will I eat anything at parties?
You have control over your choices. You will survive, in fact you will strive. I am getting more than enough calcium in my current diet, thank you (I wouldn’t allow anything less). I eat damn good and don’t feel the least bit deprived. I don’t miss cheese anymore. I used to, but eventually that “poor me, i want some cheese” feeling just lifted.
Here is your dare. Let all dairy go for 30 days. Start one week from today. No cheese, no sour cream, no milk, etc. Instead have a green drink to replace it. See my recipes here for some options. Choose to drink the green versus the white for 30 days.
This is not an anti dairy blog by the way, I appreciate good raw dairy and it’s occasional benefits for some body types. However, most dairy is loaded with hormones and other crap that you don’t want to know about and it’s highly acidic… meaning it causes your immune system to be compromised and throws you off balance which means you are more likely to get sick.
What is so incredible is that one small shift (bye, bye dairy) eliminated my allergies and a whole lot of other ailments I was having. No drugs needed, thank you very much.
Use green juice, hummus or avocado as fillers where you would normally have dairy. I challenge you. I dare you. I trust you to step up and choose you. If you are up for this challenge and you want my support, email me and let me know that you are all in: firstname.lastname@example.org
PS. the swear words may or may not continue, it could be simply the mood I’m in.
