There is a place in our world for meds, I think we can agree on that, yes? But that place really needs to be re-evaluated for the majority of people.

How many people do you know on depression meds daily and yet there are still depressed? In so many cases with so many ailments, clearly the meds are a band-aid to larger issues… that root issue being addiction to sugar.

 

In my years studying nutrition, psychology, human behavior, addiction, culture and holistic or ayurvedic practices I’ve realized that there is an abundance of programs available for people, whether it be through books, courses, teachers or self proclaimed experts.

 

I see specific individuals write, talk and teach about sugar pretty often. There are detoxes and plans to break the sugar habit once and for all… and even still, I don’t see too many people getting a long-term positive experience with their sugar addiction program when it’s all said and done.

 

I’ve been in this industry in some way for over a decade now and I have never seen one person teach about sugar addiction in the way that I do.

 

Yes, there are detoxes and books that give you plenty of info and tools to help you quit sugar for a while, but i’m talking about long-term. I’m talking about a quality, structured, clearly defined, results oriented and transformational plan.

 

The plan must change something permanently and ensure that if you are going to spend your time, then you are doing it in a way that doesn’t add to your stress, therefore increasing your cravings. You want something to work with your body and behavioral patterns versus against them.

 

When we are addicted to sugar, it’s a physical thing and it’s emotional. It can even be spiritual for us too. Sugar addiction preys on our core desires and needs sometimes so it can be a tricky thing to navigate for many.

 

And who on earth am I to be talking to you about winning at this game we call sugar?

 

Well I am a well educated mind in the field of nutrition, I’m a board certified holistic health practitioner and I’m also that woman who doesn’t agree with the way that many universities educate people in a cookie cutter form of dietary theory so I’ve spent ten’s of thousands of dollars taking external courses working with with the best holistic health educators in the world, including Deepak Chopra.  I’ve not only lived surrounded by various addictions but I also lived addicted too. I hired my first life coach at age 21 and several years later became a certified life coach myself… and although that experience was awesome, at the time, I was living on soda, fast food, candy bars and a pack of cigarettes each day.

 

I’ll be sharing more of my health journey another time, but let’s just say I got so sick and unhealthy that I hit a rock bottom… I couldn’t take another medication or live another moment feeling the way I was feeling. Fast forward about 5 years later, I had completely changed my body and life with eating clean foods and practicing holistic health. Later, I went to school and started a successful practice.

 

I was coaching people to lose a ton of weight, have great breakthroughs and I was secretly hiding my sugar addiction. I was the picture perfect version of health in every way, except I was still indulging in lots and lots of sugar.

 

The more I told myself I couldn’t have any, the more I ate. So that theory of deprivation never worked… I ended up starting to hide it because I was supposed to be the one who knew better and I hid until it was absolutely impossible for me to live so inauthentically… I made a decision to live completely authentic back then and to create a solution.

Because, let’s get real, it’s not that I hadn’t tried before over and over again to stop eating so much sugar… it’s just that nothing worked. Can you relate to this?

 

Finally, i figured it out for me. I was able to really win at my own sugar game. But would it work for others…?  I tried it on a couple people and it did. I then created a mini program and it worked for those people too.

After weeks and weeks of interviewing people on their sugar habits, here are 6 ideas i want to share:

 

One of the things that holds you back is your habits. My former sugarholic and workaholic ways have taught me plenty of bad habits that I had to learn to break. I can relate completely.

Even if you’ve been successful at changing habits, don’t you ever wonder why sugar still finds a way in…? Why is it that this one thing keeps sticking around for you?

For anyone who can hear this today and needs the reminder:
Even though there is an enormous amount of external chaos now in our world and systems, going inward and looking at your own personal opportunities to grow is extremely important now.
Especially now you will need more space.

Try not take take other people personally, they need space too.

When things are louder “out there” and there is so much uncertainty, it’s a cue to slow down, tune in to your internal voice and get clear on what you need right now.

Clear away all the noise so you can hear yourself.
Be in nature.
Create the quiet space you need so new habits and commitments can be developed.

It’s not that we won’t be tempted away to distraction. 
We will be, we’re human after all.

It’s not that we would ignore the external loud chatter completely or be naive to important issues that align with our values.

Instead we can be allowing the media wave to float along like a river away from you or next to you.
You don’t need to be “in it or of it”.
What if we changed our relationship to consumption?
We stopped becoming so attached to the latest sound byte... we just allow it to float along...

We focused on creating the new instead.

You are safe.
We are safe.
Stay grounded and centered in yourself in any way you can knowing that truth.
It is safe to relax into your quiet moments.

It’s time to choose to settle into your nervous system differently in the midst of the chaos.

How are you being a friend to YOU?? 

Right now, the external chaos is going to reflect back to us how we are choosing to “like ourself” in our darkest moments and through these life experiences we are having and witnessing.

Loving ourself fully and deeply with trust and acceptance has never been more important.

In my experience, loving me is a practice every single day (sometimes every moment) and it happens when I choose to like me first.

I need to know i got a friend in me, that I will have my own back, so to speak... whether I am in bliss and joy or in pain or self sabotage. 

I realize more and more that when I’m not living my highest truth creatively, it’s more challenging to like myself. 

I believe at the end of the day, every person wants to feel that they contributed something of value and that they genuinely like themself.... ideally love themself!
