Do you know how many times I’ve stood in front of my refrigerator with the door open… waiting… wondering… thinking about ‘what will satisfy me right now…’? How many times I’ve found myself lurking in the pantry… looking for something.
Do you have any idea how many clients and people in our community who share these similar stories with me? It’s SO common that sometimes, around 3pm, I imagine that thousands of people are getting up to walk around in search for that special junk food or fast food snack.
I created a video for you that not only answers why junk food and fast food are so darn addictive but it also talks about How To Stop Eating It!
Watch now below
PS…. There was a time in my life when fast food and junk food were my normal, i did not cook. I drank a lot of soda, smoked cigarettes and ate a lot of sugar. So when i talk about fast food – I don’t judge. I’ve been there. Check out this video and let me know your thoughts.
This drink could change your life. I don’t say that lightly either. I see it as a little miracle beverage.
Turmeric is a spice that is golden yellow… almost orange in color. It is well researched and known for anti-inflammatory qualities. Many people hear about the benefits of turmeric and ask me about how to use it or put another way, what to put it on.
Sure, we can take a supplement, however turmeric really works best when consumed with a healthy fat and also when used as a raw spice.
If you’ve been reading my blogs or working with me, you’ll see that I’m a big advocate for healing the gut, supporting the liver and boosting immunity. If we are open to the possibility that trying something new, that can impact or improve our general immunity, detoxing ability and gut health, will help us to experience powerful changes within our body for years to come.
I would like to introduce you to “Golden Milk” . It’s something that I drink personally and even share with my young son.
If you are someone who likes that connection and warm, healthy feeling of a good tea… try this out.
It gives some relief for colds, flu’s and coughs.
It helps support your gut best when you take it on an empty stomach either upon waking or before bed.
Turmeric has antibacterial and antiviral properties.
Do you have digestive issues? Pretty much all digestive issues from candida, intestinal parasites to leaky gut or IBS could benefit. Turmeric Milk or Golden Milk is a good place to begin.
For those of you taking part in the 18 Day Love Yourself Naked Cleanse Challenge or looking to support your liver to detox or cleanse, there are so many scientific studies centered around the impact of the curcumin within turmeric to prevent and reverse liver cirrohossis and fatty liver.
I addition to all of that, it tastes delicious, at least in my opinion!
Check out the recipe below.
Golden Milk or Turmeric Tea
- 1-2 cans of coconut milk
- 1/4 cup Ground Turmeric to make Turmeric Paste
- 1/2 cup pure spring water or filtered water
- 2 cups of coconut milk (from the can) – do not use the carton of store bought. (I sometimes mix hemp milk for one of the cups).
- 1 tablespoon of Blackstrap Molasses
- 1 teaspoon of coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon Raw Honey
Step 1: Make Turmeric Paste
Put ¼ cup of ground turmeric and water in a saucepan and cook over medium heat and stir continuously for 7-9 minutes. The mixture should become thick. I add drops of water to the thick mixture until I get the consistency I desire. Then, place the mixture into a glass jar with a lid. It will store in your fridge for up to 2 weeks.
Step 2: Making the Milk
In a clean sauce pan, I add 2 cups of milk (homemade milk is best or raw milk), 1 tablespoon of black strap molasses, 2 teaspoons of turmeric paste, 1 teaspoon of coconut oil and 1 teaspoon of honey (optional). Heat and stir over low to medium heat for 2 minutes. Enjoy!
PS. Do you have more questions on your health, physically, emotionally or spiritually and you want answers.
There are these ‘things’ that live inside of you… they are little warrior fighters that can become big or small depending on what kind of problem they need to solve.
They are so powerful that they can eradicate cancers and bad cells… Your army is the size of between 500-700 depending on your beautiful body and they are exceptional problem solvers. They work quietly, confidently and the average person has no idea that they have these powerhouses inside them working so hard. Well… until you get sick, then they start talking to you by getting inflamed and sore.
These little pea shaped warriors are your lymph nodes.
The right side drainage area for your body helps the right arm and right side of your chest. The left side drainage area impacts the drains for your entire body. The lymphatic system is pretty much half of your immune system, today I want to share with you how important this is.
The lymphatic system is a network of tissues and organs that help rid the body of toxins, waste and unwanted crap… It’s basically a drain.
When we eat too many processed/packaged foods, sugar, alcohol, caffeine (yes, even caffeine) they create constriction and slows up our lymph system. It can do it’s job mostly, but sometimes things get clogged. Just like you drains sometimes do. You know this because you have medical issues, regular sickness, hormonal, immune or energy problems.
It’s important to support our powerful army of lymph, you know?
This is why I have added something brand new to the 18 Day Cleanse Challenge – it’s a quick training on the ways to get your lymphatic system to move and drain while you are doing the cleanse. Food helps a lot, but it only a part of cleansing your lymph. I’ll teach you more in the training, including how to self massage your lymph.
Some people have asked me questions about joining The 18 Day Cleanse Challenge. Maybe you have some questions too or you are on the fence about diving in.
From my experience, I have almost always felt a little twinge of nervousness before a cleanse or doing something that I know will force me to grow and change. This is normal and also an indicator to do it.
I have a page here where I answer all kinds of cleanse questions. Some of the common questions are:
- What if I don’t see results?
- What if this won’t work for me?
- I feel like I’m a hopeless case.
- I’ll be out of town for a portion of this! What happens if I miss some of the program?
- How much time will I need to devote to the program?
- How do i know if this is the best fit for me? What is your refund policy?
- Will I like the food?
- Will I see results?
PS. Reminder that the cleanse registration closes soon for our LIVE group.
Adrenal Fatigue is a major issue and silent battle. Most of us have zero clue that “our issues” are actually because of our taxed adrenals.
If left untreated or ignored it can lead to weight gain, exhaustion, depression, sugar and carb cravings, sickness, thyroid problems, Candida issues, auto immune problems, poor digestion and gut health, strained and stressed relationships, poor sleep and bad eating habits.
When we are so stressed that it becomes our ‘normal’ we unconsciously seek more of it. We may find it how to sit down and relax.
We begin to break down.
How do I know so much about this?
Well beyond my holistic nutrition education, I have been my own best case study.
It’s not a badge of honor to be proud of.
My self care is not some luxury item for rare occasions, it is my most important necessity. And it’s your most important necessity too.
“I have come to believe that caring for myself is not self indulgent. Caring for myself is an act of survival.”
– Audre Lorde
So how do you support and heal your adrenals and put this into practice?
The 18 Day Love Yourself Naked Cleanse Challenge helps kick start and support the 6 ways you need to focus on to rebuild your adrenal glands. They are:
Almost all cereal is sugar with no nutrients – it’s pointless and has no nutritional value. I know, strong statement and also very true.
So I make my own.
I rarely measure recipes, so just assume a handful for the nuts and seeds.
- chia seeds (soaked for 2+ hours)
- raw cashews
- raw almonds
- raw macadamia nuts
- raw pumpkin seeds
- raw brazil nuts
- sea salt (pinch)
- can of coconut milk (3 tablespoons of thick chunky coconut)
- fresh organic berries
- lemon (teaspoon)
- probiotic powder (optional)
- dates (2 pitted dates chopped)
- Unsweetened hemp, coconut or almond milk
- Note: it’s best to soak chia seeds and nuts in water so they are softer and more digestible. Soak overnight or at a minimum an hour or so.
I take all soaked nuts/seeds and put them into my food processor and pulse until chopped (I do not add chia seeds yet)
I take the nut mixture and add to a medium bowl with chia seeds, sea salt, chunky coconut milk, lemon, dates, probiotic powder and mix together.
Add a nut milk to create desired consistency.
Add blueberries or strawberries as toppings.
You could also add maple syrup or honey, but I try to sweeten with dates and fruit, personally.
Get creative! Add cinnamon, coconut flakes, cacao powder or nibs

I’m going to tell you some big news that’s happening soon, but before I get to that, I want to share my birthday moment with you…
It was actually the night before my birthday. I was curled up on the couch, finishing a movie on bears… a mama bear and her two cubs. In my cozy yoga pants, all wrapped up in a blanket and my pink journal by my side. My last night of being 34. I didn’t want to go to bed just yet, there was a full moon out and I felt inner resistance about getting older… as if somehow, staying up late was going to change that for me. I was noticing some sadness about the aging process and I stayed with it and then smiled as I felt myself embracing my new age all the same. I suddenly felt filled with gratitude.
Then, it happened, a voice very loudly said to me (yes, in my own voice) , “Hey You… you are not getting any younger and either are the people you love, enjoy every single one of your moments this year. Be present with those you love like it was your last moments with them. Discern how you spend your time and who you choose to spend it with. Stop being so unhappy with yourself when you do stupid shit. Make a lot of mistakes. Build your team solid and plan for a huge future. Travel. Stop caring what people think of you. Stop judging yourself. Start loving yourself more deeply, Renee, and be confident… you got this. Nothing is permanent! Begin a brand new love affair discovering who you are.”
That was a huge download, I know. I grabbed my journal and began to write it down. After I got all of that written and I am pretty sure I missed some things, I also started to write about what makes me unmistakable and unique.
For the past several months, I’ve been digging pretty deep over here redefining how to best serve all of you.
I want to stand Naked before you and let you really see me this year.
I don’t mean literally in my birthday suit, although you should know I’m not afraid of doing that of course. What I mean is that I’m not wearing any masks, I’m not hiding anything… I am naked.
I want that for you too and you know what else I want?
I have a desire that you have the entire road map to love yourself naked so you can see exactly where you are going before you arrive. The vision of yourself stepping forward and the compassion to show up so you can get a glimpse of what it is like to feel whole and in your body.
So I’ve been creating…
Programs to help you solve the problems that I am tired of seeing in the world every single day for people.
I feel many of you so deeply and I have the empathetic gift of often feeling people’s emotions and it truly brings me to tears every now and then to know a little about the pain you may experience with loving your body and your relationship with food.
I want to help you access…
*More time, organization and less stress
*A plan for wellness that fits you, specifically
*Acceptance of your body
*Loving yourself naked and weight loss in all the right places
*More energy and vitality
*More connection in relationships and with yourself
*More contribution and focus to create lasting habits that stick
*The part of you that yearns for change and follows through with clarity
These are just some of the things, I desire for you (and me).
Why not? Let’s have it all.
Before I tell you what we are creating over here, you wanna know what I woke up to on my 35th birthday?
My absolutely incredible boyfriend, Rob and my beautiful son Manny snuggling me in bed and singing Happy Birthday… then I was presented with a handwritten card from 5 year old Manny and another card from Rob, inviting me to take part in a scavenger hunt around my home that included little gifts, notes and cards from both of them. See the picture of the genius, thoughtfulness Rob created for me… He is so good. The hunt ended with a surprise trip to Manhattan (where we began our love affair).
Our love was really a surprise to me, I never saw him coming… but that’s a story for another blog…
I felt recently like someone had sucked every bit of knowledge and wisdom out of me… It was as if I was numb and in a different body and had lost my memory….
Are you tired and on the go constantly? Your to do list is never ending. And the thought of taking a full day off just for you is so exciting to your heart and soul but your head quickly chimes in to tell you that you’re not allowed…?
Today, I want to talk about the art of doing absolutely nothing and why I have resisted this kicking and screaming… Then, at the end of this message… I have a shameless plug about my new course, Naked Nutrition: Love Your Body, Love Your Food, that will be opening up for registration really soon and I couldn’t be more excited about that!!
Before I get to that through, I want to share with you why I have resisted doing nothing and felt like a numb shell of myself who had lost her wisdom.
Working with clients is one of my favorite parts of my career… I get to say wisdom to them that no one else would ever say while being a huge catalyst for change in their life. It gives me this unique opportunity to listen to them and relax into my body and be really present for them, for myself and for the sake of growth. It comes easy to me when I’m in flow… It’s almost like I’m doing nothing.
However, I have noticed that one of my deep rooted fears of worth comes up in other areas of my life which makes me resist slowing down to “do nothing”.
As a young child, a received messages that it is Not okay to simply do nothing.
I was a very busy little girl growing up, always working on a project, building something or moving. Then, I became an entrepreneur at 21 and worked like a dog while in college, I would collapse into the couch like a dead weight at the end of the day and wake up to do it all over again the next. If I had a day off, I didn’t know what to do with myself and I felt guilty for doing nothing.
For the past 5-6 years, there has been tremendous growth in this area of my life… I slowed down and learned to embrace that voice in my head that told me I had to be “doing” all the time… but I didn’t need to listen to it all the time.
Well, I’m having another evolution with it now… In the past 5 years, I’ve done a lot of things (birthed a baby, started another business, divorced, moved a bunch, traveled a bunch, fell in love and decided to move in together recently)… And I have seen myself find this deeper understanding and relationship with “doing nothing”.
It sure has pushed my edges and it’s made me realize a bad habit of leaving things around me as reminders to do them… I’m visual, but having all of these “little piles of reminders” was causing me stress!
What I find, is when I don’t feel wise, free, in flow and focused… It’s my body’s intuition telling me to do nothing or to declutter.
Most of my life I had been ignoring this inherent wisdom.
I have noticed that old fear coming up with resistance and loudness: “Renee, you won’t be successful if you just sit here, you are not worthy, you don’t have time to just take a walk”, etc.
Oh and by doing nothing, I don’t mean being a couch potato all day long…
Although that is sometimes fun, what I mean is that I am learning a whole other level about embracing my:
*Procrastination and listening to my intuition
*Meditation practice in newer ways
*Lounging around and reading a book time
*Random nap times
*Bubble bath time
*Healing time with herbs and oils
*Mindful eating and cooking adventures
*Tasting and senses when I’m eating and drinking
*Moments with those I love
*Listening skills and awareness practice
*Ideas around letting go and waiting
*Breathing and movements
This may seem simple for some, but if you are someone out there with a deep rooted fear around slowing down, worthiness and you feel guilty a lot and do more for others than you do for yourself, then it can be quite the task to convince yourself to just do nothing.
I had to (and I’m still evolving daily) get to the deep rooted fears of worthiness around loving myself. As my first coach told me when I hired her 15 years ago, growth is much like an onion… We are always peeling back another layer to get to the heart.
To me, it’s divine, that I am leading a movement for both men and women to love themselves naked and I’m evolving on the journey myself along with you.
I created an experience that is a group coaching course for both men and women and I’m about to launch the Beta of it. It will run this fall for select participants and then I will open it next year permanently.
Do you know why I’m most excited about this? Because I created it for me… It was exactly what I needed to do to grow. Anytime in my past, that I created something for me and shared it with others, it’s been a huge success. This happened with my 18 Day Love Yourself Naked Challenge cleanse and Winning The Sugar Game too.
So today, I want you to practice doing absolutely nothing for a bit, maybe you start with an hour or maybe for you, it’s 5 minutes or maybe it’s a whole day.
I had a call scheduled with my girlfriend, Sacha late last year and I showed up tired, emotional and stressed. She was feeling similar. We decided to hang up and not do the call 3-4 minutes in… It was in the middle of the afternoon. Instead, we decided to individually curl up with a blanket at our own homes and watch a movie my ourselves with that hour.
It was the best medicine and we needed it… sometimes you need community and sometimes you need to be alone so you can show up fully within community.
We couldn’t be on that call with enough energy for one another if we weren’t taking time to be with ourselves. It was also a powerful example of respecting each other.
It was an important love lesson.
I’d like to share that there is an entirely different view on jealousy and envy that I don’t hear too many people talking about these days… well except for calling each other crazy b’s and rude a’s… you get my drift.
I’ve found myself digging deep to feel some emotional stuff that I haven’t noticed in years… like jealousy, envy and insecurity. Yep, not exactly exciting but as I noticed twinges of these come to me, I knew I had to explore more… So what did I do? By the way, there is a huge breakthrough for you in this message, if you can relate, but before I get to that…
First I resisted change. Because we all say we want to change and we really do consciously but subconsciously… we don’t… we would rather stay safe and cozy stuck in our old self sabotaging habits and beliefs.
The best way for me to change when I don’t feel like it is to move my body… because if I’m moving my body and changing my state, then I am forced to create the emotional change.
I hung up my exercise and dance pole in the house. I can do some great tricks on it. I’ve been running through the “enchanted forest” near my home and went back to hot yoga to sweat out those toxins and open my heart. Oh and I cannot forget to mention doing lots of cartwheels and handstands with my almost 5 year old out on the lawn. Can you believe I did the slip in slide with him too? I also had a diving competition with my sister in the canal near my parents home… we both were given a 7 out of 10 stars by our family…, but I’m pretty sure I won (sorry Sara). What can I say… I’m competitive.
What I was noticing in many areas of my life was a deep rooted pattern of comparing myself to others and some old jealous thoughts from my past coming up too. You know what, I got mad because I thought I healed that stuff. Ha. Well that was my first clue, whenever we think we are “healed” there is something more buried there under the surface.
First, it’s important that you know that jealousy and envy are different emotional states. They are not the same thing.
According to one of my fav books, The Language of Emotions by Karla McLaren, “jealousy arises in response to unfaithfulness or deceit in an intimate relationship” and “envy is powerful because it responds to powerful threats to your social position and your connection to resources (money, food, belonging, status, etc)”.
So what is under the surface of envy or jealousy?
Jealousy can trigger your intuition (this is a good thing)
Envy can stand up for you in instances of unfairness (another good thing)
What’s pretty crazy is that most of us, culturally, have been trained to think that jealousy and envy is destructive, crazy and shameful stuff.
I work with people on how to use these emotions and couple them with their intellectual smarts, bodily skills and strengths and desires so they can step into their brilliance and I knew that is also what I needed to do for myself too.
You know what else is important… at the root of both jealousy and envy is one big emotion: Anger.
I had to get in touch with why I was so angry and who was I angry at. This is how I help people go super deep and why our work is so freaking powerful… Anger is a catalyst for great change when used wisely.
On the other side of that jealousy, envy and anger that we have built up, you know what you’ll find?
Radical Self Acceptance.
It’s funny, because that’s the work that I’m here to do… teaching you to fully accept yourself. There are always more layers of acceptance that we can get to and it’s so important to continue to dive deep within yourself to get there.
Ask yourself today, what kind of friend am I being? What kind of daughter? Mother? Father? Sister? Brother? Leader?
Then, you gotta start to take action with your wellness.
I realized that I had been a very average friend to myself in the month prior and a pretty distant mother to myself too. Yes, it’s our job to parent and befriend ourselves. You gotta step it up!!!
So, I’ve spent this month sleeping a lot more. I have taken longer showers and some great bubble baths. As I mentioned, I moved my body and I got back in touch with my tastes and what kind of food I needed to feed those lovely taste buds of mine.
As I lay in my bubble bath (I put way too many bubbles in there!), I embraced every part of my body and thanked it and I cried. As the tears washed down my face and I looked at the overflowing suds, I realized that I had forgotten about my best friend (aka me) a little lately… I had forgotten to accept myself.
You know what? You must create self acceptance as a habit in your daily life..
That’s what I’m great at, I help people create lasting habits that stick and the reason we struggle with it is because we try to skip over that “emotions” and “change” part above. You cannot skip steps.
I’ve been coaching clients one-on-one for years and it’s one of my favorite ways to spend my time and I plan to continue for a long time.
I’m also really excited because I have found a way to take the system that I walk people through to change their inner game, create wellness in their body’s and new habits in their lives and put it into a group program that is not cookie cutter. You grow at your own pace, you get what you need and you do it within a group of incredible people who will hold you accountable to making habits last.
First, let me say this… you can only drink so much green juice. I love my green juice but there are other colors in the rainbow and universe that your body craves… whether you know it now or not.
I have been craving beets, so in today’s post, I’m going to share The Why, The How And The Beet Low-Down with you and then at the end of the blog, I have a video of a couple of boys with “beats” that I’m digg’n this week that you must see.
Why beets? Unstoppable energy, that’s why.
(if you’re already a lover like me, read anyway, you’ll boost your confidence)
Uses — fevers, kidney stones, constipation, healing, immune system, heart disease, digestion, blood, antioxidant, arthritis, anti-inflammatory, fungicidal, detoxification, anti-cancer properties.
People who eat lots of beets tend to live long.
So beets have this stuff called “betalain” and it’s what gives the beet that fantastic color. You can really eat any part of the beet plant.
Beets and things like goji berries have this great color and a great affect on our liver, hormones and estrogen. Bad periods? Eat up.
I want you to know that food, herbs and plants are perfectly capable of being your primary way of life for healing if you would allow them to be.
One of my 2014 desires has everything to do with optimizing my health and being as exceptional as possible and of course sharing with and serving others in the process.
I want limitless energy and beets are awesome at this. You may know that I have a program on sugar addiction called Winning The Sugar Game set to open up again in a few months, so let’s talk sugar for a minute.
Beets are high in sugar but they come into your bloodstream like a slow canoe chill’n down the river versus refined sugar which is much more like a white-water rafting trip in your blood. You are getting the fiber and a rich source of natural energy with beets. It’s amazing.
TAKE THE QUIZ
I often talk about making sure you have good digestion and that being the root to great health. Eating beets are your little quiz to testing your stomach acid levels. You might pee red. Yes, your urine might turn red. Don’t freak out, you are not dying or peeing blood but this does tell you something important.
Pink urine: you have low stomach acid. Cut out sugars, fructose (excess fruit, processed foods and bread-products. Add in some ginger, probiotics apple cider vinegar, fermented foods or warm lemon water to amp things up.
Clear urine: you have normal stomach acid levels.. drink and eat more beets. Yay!
(note: your poo can turn red too… another reminder to increase your digestion)
Yes, beets are a natural aphrodisiac (beets contain boron which connects with human sex hormones). Slip your sweetie one or two of the recipes below and you’ll both be quite happy this week.
Beets are really nutrient-dense and full of vitamins and minerals. If you are driving a fine sports car, you are putting in the best fuel, right?
Since you are a really FINE HUMAN, put in the beet fuel. There are so many vitamins and minerals to name… B-vitamins, iron, magnesium, folic acid…
Below I have some recommendations for purchasing beets and consuming them, but first remember that beets are a cold month veggie so they serve you well to relax during these winter months and help depression. They lower your blood pressure and help you to chill the heck out! (beets = deep breath and smiles)
To Do List.
– Buy beets (local, organic and raw/whole – not canned or packaged).
– Make juice (you will get more from the juice versus cooking. Cooking is good, but it doesn’t compare to beet juice or beet smoothies).
Juice or drink your beets.
I like both, smoothies provide the fiber and I also like to add in a protein with my beet juice sometimes.
Here are some ideas:
ABC Juice: apple, beet, carrot
Pain Relief: carrot, lime, apple, celery, cucumber, ginger, turmeric, beets, apple cider vinegar (1 tbsp)
Digestion Kick: beet, carrot, ginger, parsley
Sweet Treat: Coconut water, beets, soaked cashews, frozen strawberries
Pickle your beets.
Peel the beets and then grate them. In a bowl, add water, apple cider vinegar (unpasteurized), sea salt, herbs/spices and you can add stevia if you want to sweeten them up. Let them stand for about 8 hours or overnight at room temperature.
Eat your beets.
Beets are great on salads.
You could bake beets with dill, salt, pepper and a little extra virgin olive oil at 350 for about 30 minutes.
Besides, beets, some of my favorite daily breaks are dancing “beats” and the following 5 minutes of these 2 boys with beats will be worth your time (and they are cute)
Do you have a way you really love to eat your beets or a smoothie/juice recipe to share? Share below in the comments.
PS. Speaking of “B”, B-School is Open! If you’re a biz owner or you want to own a business, I cannot recommend B-School enough if you want a business that thrives, impacts people and thrives in today’s world of marketing. It was so crucial for me and I’m doing the program for a 3rd time this year because it’s that good. All the details are here and there is a wonderful free video training here too.
Don’t forget the boys with beats video below… it’s great.
