15 Tips To Beat Belly Bloat

Today, I’m going to share with you 15 tips to prevent belly bloating because let’s face it, it’s ruining your confidence in the bedroom and that horrible feeling is weighing down both your stomach and your energy level.

You begin to slip on your favorite jeans, the weather is cooling down and it feels nice to break out your fall clothing. As you stand in your bedroom and pull up your pants, you do that little hop to get them up over your hips and butt. You see the button hangs a little below your belly and you have a hard time zipping and buttoning them up… They are so tight!

What are you going to wear? You need to leave and nothing fits. You feel so bloated and big. Your confidence plummets as your self-talk immediately shifts from excitement about the new season to instead you needing to lose some weight. Again. Ugh. This cycle never ends… The feeling of the day is now darkened.

That story was me not too many years ago. I always felt bloated and would often hide my stomach under lose tops, sweaters and coats… and yes, If I was sitting for a while, would undo that top button when no one was looking… ahhhh! I could breathe again.

Then I learned something that changed everything. I started to learn about ayurveda and consciousness. I brought these ideas into my lifestyle and diet and I’m going to show you how I did it today.

I could list out hundreds of reasons for bloating that might include Candida or hormonal imbalance, but that is for future blogs.

Today, I bet you are more interested in getting the results. Bloating is a symptom of weak digestion and improper eating habits and it can happen to even the healthiest of eaters. It wasn’t until years after I completely changed my life physically and emotionally through adjusting my diet, that I learned I was still getting really bloated.

Now come on! I made all of these healthy changes and I was still bloated. I thought it was so kind of joke, but inside I was fearful it would never end.

So I mustered up some strength and I set out on a mission to find the solution and today I want to share 15 tips that really impacted me.

  1. Know that your belly is like a wood burning stove inside… it needs to have a roaring fire inside to keep digesting at high capacity. The hotter the better and if it goes out, digestion slows and we bloat.
  2. Weak digestive fire means digestion issues and other related diseases so if you have allergies, skip the allergy meds and take a probiotic and apple cider vinegar instead.
  3. Keeping your digestive fire burning hot helps you burn toxins and continually detoxes so add in whole foods rich in vitamin C.
  4. Eat 3 meals per day and stop when you are no longer hungry.
  5. Do not eat fruit after you eat a meal.
  6. Have a regular daily awareness practice like meditation or yoga. Stress causes bloating.
  7. Chew on a slice of ginger sprinkled with lime juice (spicy!) about 30 minutes before you eat your meal.
  8. Stop drinking cold beverages, this makes you bloat. Just Say No to the ice cubes.
  9. Slow down while eating. Put down your fork and take a breath. Practice mindful eating.
  10. Use spices that spark up your digestion: turmeric, cumin, ginger, black pepper.
  11. Take prebiotics and probiotics to kick start your digestion again, particularly if you have been taking prescriptions, especially antibiotics.
  12. Eat fermented foods like raw sauerkraut or kimchi meals to improve digestion.  
  13. Sea salt is important for proper digestion. Lose the table salt.
  14. Learn your dosha and eat accordingly.
  15. Don’t drink a lot of liquids 15-20 minutes before eating… it puts out your digestive fire.


Nearly 50% of Americans struggle with digestion issues. I bet that percentage is actually much higher. You might just assume your digestion is supposed to be that way because it always has been or your parents had the same issues. Wrong…

Our digestive system is exposed to lots of toxins. Internal and external. Environmental. Emotional.

This is scary because when our digestive fire cannot burn off toxins, we then create disease.

It all starts in your belly.

When I look back on my life and consider the relat When I look back on my life and consider the relationships I attracted back then (that happened to be the most toxic or trauma bonded) it was for two big reasons.

1) unconscious seeking for security in things/people/sources outside of me.

Old Belief: “Once I have this, I will be safe. I will feel secure, everything will be okay”

Our security and safety come mostly from within. Certainly, more money or the next “magic pill” or quick fix or relationship can inspire some security, for a while...

It will not last or it will feel like a toxic relationship for as long as we are not Sourced in security and grounded within ourself. 

Note: we often need to look at the “bully’s, emotional abusive or passive aggressive relationships to see this. 
This could be with others or with yourself! Yes, you can “bully” yourself.

2) using things outside of me to cope due to dysregulated nervous system. (This is often not conscious to us at first)

Old belief: “once I have this it will help me “feel better”

These coping mechanisms work for a short while, until they do not anymore. 

(Food, the next “diet or workout plan”, the next shopping spree or purchase, drugs, alcohol, work, relationship, pharmaceuticals, etc)

We won’t be able to hold these things with any balance with a nervous system and emotional system that is dysregulated. 

Your nervous system is a complex network of neurons...
Basically, it’s the control center of your body!

All of your muscles, glands, sensations, smells, hearing, taste, touch, higher self are telling your body what to do.

Your nervous system is interpreting your body’s responses constantly.

We use things outside of us to try and regulate when we feel “out of balance” and sometimes those things just don’t serve us.

The crazy thing is: we will think the solution is in this “thing we need to have ASAP” and the solution we seek actually has nothing to do with “the thing”.

We’ve been taught the wrong way. 
Answers to things rarely come from outside of us.

Many of us were not taught about our nervous system and how it’s impacted by childhood trauma and how it’s the core reason we create a lot of the situations we are in (good or bad).

Fantastic question....? Because big profits do no Fantastic question....?

Because big profits do not historically come from healthy people (when it comes to selling the anecdotes to their pain, anyway)

Because healthy people aren’t as easy to manipulate.

Because individuals with strong immune systems need less pharmaceuticals. This impacts Big Pharma’s profits and entire way of business.

Because mandating (I actually don’t like that word, but it works here) ... mandating vitamins and minerals would empower health and individual choice to choose health for one self.  Large corporations selling big pharmaceuticals, large amounts of sugar, fast food and factory and processed foods do not want empowered people because they are harder to sell to.
And big government structures that are run by unethical people can manipulate people who are vitamin deficient, because they get sicker more quickly.
What if your desire to get the lasting results you What if your desire to get the lasting results you’ve always wanted with your life (food, body, relationships, financial) was not about giving more attention to these things? 

What if your attention to the boring nothingness of life began to outweigh the attention you give to all the things you want right now?

Sounds silly, right?! 
Maybe backwards from what we've been taught culturally. 

We were taught to break free from life-long patterns of discontent by consuming information outside of us: learning, doing, pushing, striving.

And yet, it's not working so well, right?  At least not long-term. 

There is a place for education outside of us, yes, however, it doesn't do much for a nervous system that cannot hold the complexity of how we want to grow and evolve within that education and new wisdom.

People are trying to learn to "be still" and calm down their anxiety and maybe even meditate but their bodies cannot hold it yet. 
They struggle! 

So when your physical body and nervous system regulates...
 
Your whole game is changed as you learn to be with yourself. 
To be in your body, with your emotions and nervous system differently than you ever have before. 

Then your system can hold the capacity for the change you have always wanted.
